Adding sulphur to copper makes for a ‘free-machining copper’ as the sulphur acts as a chip breaker, making it markedly easier to machine than pure copper and only having a small effect on the conductivity of the metal.
Sulphur Copper’s machining speeds can reach up to 4 times faster than those of pure copper. It has a better tooling life span. Sulphur Copper is a flexible metal as it combines the high thermal and electrical conductivity values that are often seen in pure copper, however, the ease of machining from the sulphur allows it to be used in a greater number of conditions. Other qualities of GRADE have an easy solder ability and decent levels of corrosion resistance.
